Event details

Bury Theatre Workshop, a Community Theatre Company, are performing 'Quartermaine’s Terms' by Simon Gray.

Superficially, Quartermaine’s Terms is a light comedy about a group of educated, often eccentric, English characters in an academic backwater in the early sixties.

Both funny and sad, the play is unfashionably low-key and focuses on the minutiae of private behaviours and personalities. Through the depiction of the drama and mystery that exist in seemingly mundane lives, the play shows how the selfish pursuit of personal ambition can sometimes ruin the lives of milder, less forceful people in barely perceptible ways. "A masterly portrayal of an innocent" as Harold Pinter said of the title character. A gentle and thoughtful entertainment for an autumn evening.
