Event details

Bury Theatre Workshop, a Community Theatre amateur company, are performing The Lady from the Sea by Henrik Ibsen.

“Distracted and restless, Ellida feels desperately trapped in her marriage to Dr Wangel, in a small mountainous town in Norway. She is the daughter of a lighthouse keeper and grew up where the fjord meets the open sea. She yearns for the sea and a broader horizon, both liberating and dangerously self destructive. Some years earlier Ellida falls deeply in love with a sailor but having murdered his captain he has to escape and leave her. He asked her to wait for him until he returned. After years of silence, she marries Dr Wangel and tries to break the engagement to the sailor. But the former lover has too great a hold on her and returns after years of absence to claim her again. She is then forced to decide between the sailor and her husband. An enchanting and thought provoking masterpiece that provides wonderful entertainment for the dark, cold evenings!”
