Two writers on real-life crime come together in Lavenham Village Hall to discuss whether the world of true crime is indeed stranger than fiction.

The session is chaired by Andrew Lownie.

Duncan Campbell was the Guardian crime expert and chairman of the Crime Reporters Association. His updated history of organised crimes 'The Underworld' is published this year by Ebury Press. His previous books include 'We’ll all be Murdered in our beds: The Shocking History of Crime Reporting'. He was a consultant on the 2018 film 'King of Thieves' about the Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary.

Joanna Jolly is an award-winning BBC journalist based in London. She has worked as a BBC producer in the US, South Africa, Europe and India. In 2015 she won an award for the best current affairs documentary for her in-depth look at the prosecution of rape in India. 'Red River Girl', her first book, is a gripping account of the unsolved death of an indigenous teenager whose body was found in Winnipeg’s Red River.

Andrew Lownie has run his own literary agency since 1988 and according to Publishers’ Marketplace has been the top selling literary agent in the world. He has written acclaimed biographies of the writer John Buchan and the spy Guy Burgess and is the founder and now President of the Biographers Club.
