Event details

Join our History and Heritage Walking Tour and learn more about Newmarket, the fascinating town which has been a favourite destination for royals since the 17th century.

Discover Newmarket is proud to bring you this fascinating walking tour, giving you an insight as to how Newmarket has developed from being a small, unimportant settlement in the 1200s to a favourite destination for Royalty in the time of James I, Charles I and the most notorious of the Stuart Kings, the Merry Monarch – Charles II.

This is the perfect way to retrace the steps of royalty!

You will hear how the town developed, in the words of James I from a ‘quaint little village’ into the Home of Horseracing but you will also learn that there is more to Newmarket than just the 3,000 horses in training in the town.
