Event details

Bronze, along with stone, iron, steam and information, is one of the few things to have given its name to an Age.

For over 6000 years, bronze has had an important role in mankind’s material, social and artistic development. This talk will highlight ways in which this metal has affected, and continues to influence our lives.

“What is conserved in the ground? Stone, bronze, ivory, bone, sometimes pottery. Never wood objects, no fabric or skins. That completely skews our notions about primitive man.” - Pablo Picasso

“I have a bronze statue of myself, naked. I have these really big curls and water comes out of every curl. It's hot.” - Macy Gray

Dr Steve Jones was originally an engineering researcher who is allegedly retired. Among other things, he now spends time making metal sculptures, casting bronzes, and giving the occasional talk on art.
