Rachel’s award winning first novel The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry was adapted into a film with Jim Broadbent and also into a West End musical.
Her seventh novel The Homemade God follows a fractured family navigating secrets at an Italian estate. It allows Rachel to explore a darker side to her writing and weaves an intriguing web of family dynamics and conflicting memories.
Rachel has written many original plays for Radio 4 as well as dramatising classic and new novels. In 2007 she won the Tinniswood Award for best original radio drama. Most recently, she dramatised Pride and Prejudice and Gone With the Wind. Rachel began writing after a career as an actor. She has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Kingston University for her services to literature.
Perfectly placed to interview her is Paul Venables, not only a well-loved member of The Archers cast but also a trained Jungian psychoanalyst.
