This richly musical portrait tells the story of Imogen Holst in her own words and music, performed by a quintet of musicians of the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra with actor Rosanna Miles bringing Imogen Holst to life!
Daughter of Gustav Holst, Imogen Holst is perhaps best known for her twenty years at Aldeburgh Festival, where she worked alongside Benjamin Britten as amanuensis, confidante, orchestrator and trusted musical sounding board, as well as a festival organiser with Britten and Peter Pears. Yet it is in her own compositions that her musical legacy truly endures.
Devised by Tim Welton, this evening will bring to life the work of a composer, conductor and educator who remains one of Britain’s unsung musical heroines. Featuring the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra’s outstanding violinist Richard Milone, acclaimed by audiences as the astonishing soloist behind The Lark Ascending in The Lark’s Flight Over Suffolk.
This is a rare chance to hear exceptional musicians bring an overlooked voice vividly to life. An evening to be experienced and remembered long after.
