Bardwell Church Tower Open Day

Come to the Bardwell Church Open Day to tour the tower!

The tower roof is at a height of 86 feet above ground level and offers great views over the surrounding countryside. There are about 100 steps to climb, most of them up the spiral staircase. The tour will include the ringing room and the old medieval belfry. The church will also be open for the concurrent Heritage Open Day, with display boards and guides to show visitors around the church.

There will be 6 tours running at 40 minute intervals throughout the day with 10 places on each tour. Booking can be done at the church on the day from 12pm, the last tour starts at 4:20pm. Each booking will be charged at £5 per person which will be refunded after your tour (if you don’t turn up, your booking fee will go into church funds). We do this to ensure that tour places are filled and visitors aren’t turned away unnecessarily.

Suitable footwear must be worn. No children under 8. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone with unsuitable footwear, who does not meet the minimum age criteria, or who in our view is not fit to climb the tower.

A toilet is available in the church and light refreshments will also be available. Entry is free but donations welcome.

Bardwell is about 8 miles NE of Bury St Edmunds. Parking is on the village green (5 mins walk from the church) at IP31 1AW. There is limited accessible parking at the church.
