The Home-Start Hike

Step out with purpose this September and be part of the brand-new Home-Start Hike!

Choose from four beautiful countryside routes and walk for a reason that matters to you - whether it’s quality time with the family, a personal challenge, or a fun team-building day out with colleagues. Whatever inspires you to take part, your steps will help support a great local cause.

This is a sponsored walk open to families, individuals and local businesses. Every penny raised goes directly to Home-Start Suffolk who provide valuable support to Suffolk families facing tough times – including mental health challenges, loneliness and isolation, domestic abuse and family breakdown.

Registration to take part starts at just £10. When you register to take part in the Home-Start Hike you will also be agreeing to raise the minimum sponsorship required (starting at £50).

This fundraising event has been organised in partnership with Abbeycroft and Explore Outdoor.

Signing up to the Home-Start Hike is your chance to make a real difference for families in Suffolk who are struggling. Whether you walk 3 or 13 miles, every step helps raise vital funds so parents don’t have to face tough times alone. It’s also a great way to enjoy the outdoors, connect with others, and take in the stunning Suffolk countryside - all while supporting a cause that helps children get the best start in life.

Hike distances:

With four scenic routes to choose from, the Home-Start Hike offers a chance to immerse yourself in the breathtaking Suffolk countryside. Discover the landscapes that inspired Thomas Gainsborough, explore historic towns and villages, and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the valley trails. The Home-Start Hike will be starting at Kingfisher Leisure Centre, in Sudbury. The 3, 6 and 13 mile Hikes will also finish at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre, and the 26 mile Hike will finish at Bury St Edmunds Cathedral.

Registration fees & sponsorship:

Registration to take part in this event starts at just £10. When you register to take part in the Home-Start Hike you will also be agreeing to raise the minimum sponsorship required. Please note all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Corporate team entry:

We’re inviting local businesses to enter teams in the Home-Start Hike. Each team can have up to 6 staff members, and they can choose their own distance. Team members don’t have to walk the same route or stay together, but they must confirm their chosen distance when they sign up.

Refreshments & aid stations:

A refreshment stand will be available at Kingfisher Leisure Centre throughout the event. For those participants taking part in the 13 and 26 mile Hike, aid stations will be available at approximately 3 mile intervals.

Home-Start Hike T-shirts:

Adults and children taking part can also purchase event T-shirts. T-shirts will be available to collect on the day when you sign in for the event. (Please note there are changing facilities available at Kingfisher Leisure Centre).
