The maze was planted in 1992 with the help of members of the public. There are 2,500 hornbeam trees that make up over two miles of hedging. It was designed in the style of an oak tree to commemorate the Oakes family, former owners of the estate. It is open from the end of May, usually the school holidays, until the end of October every year.
We run a variety of trails and quizzes throughout the year to test your wildlife and general knowledge. We also offer ranger-led activities during the school holidays. You could try your hand at den building or creating a boat out of natural objects and test it on the pond. So, there really is always something interesting and fun to do! You can find out the next dates for these events on our What’s On page.
We also offer ranger-led birthday parties, so you can have a birthday party with a difference! We can offer campfire cooking, den-building, foraging and fire-lighting in our purpose build bush craft area.
As some events are seasonal keep checking our Facebook page and What’s On page regularly for more details.
