Why Can't You Draw Something Nice...?

David Hughes is an internationally acclaimed illustrator who has worked for Time Magazine, The New Yorker, The Observer, Granada TV, The Daily Express, The Guardian, The BBC, Punch, The Folio Society and many more.

Moyse’s Hall Museum is delighted to present the incredible work of internationally acclaimed illustrator, David Hughes in an exhibition that spans his entire career, particularly focusing on his satire, illustrations, and popular culture.

In an exhibition co-curated with the artist, 'Why Can’t You Draw Something Nice…?’ explores the many medias of a career in book, newspaper, and magazine illustration, as well as design for television, film, and operatic productions, and shares his pandemic journals and sculptures – works created as a reaction to the once in a generational event that brought our way of life to a standstill.

A career that has seen commissions for The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Observer, The Telegraph, The Washington Post, The Times, Rolling Stone, Playboy, The Daily Express, The Folio Society, Faber & Faber, Esquire USA, BBC, Granada Television, Channel 4, GQ, Punch, Los Angeles Times, New Scientist, and many more.

With over 170 pieces on display this is a large exhibition, with many pieces never publicly displayed before.
